Dear December

Dear December,

What a crazy month you have already been. I feel like you are passing by so quickly and I want to soak in all the good tidings you bring before it's too late. Between work, family and preparing for Christmas I haven't had much time for other things I enjoy, like working out, cooking dinner and updating this blog. I love you December, not only for the spirit you bring but for the family time and Birthday time. As I'm sure you already know, my mom's birthday, my birthday and my brother's birthday are all extremely close to Christmas. Which means in the Angell household December is a month of constant celebrations.

We had one such celebration this last weekend. My parents held an early Christmas. We all shared gifts and ate great food. My parents were very generous this year and gave us some wonderful new things. One of my favorites though were these funny hats that can also become a scarf. Honestly I have no idea when I will ever wear it but their great for a good laugh.
My absolute favorite thing thus far this month was mine and Jake's ice skating trip. Growing up in Arizona and then living in St. George my husband had only ever experienced ice skating once before our trip this past Saturday.
First of all let me be clear, Jake was amazing. He was positive, courageous and such a great sport. I loved being able to talk, laugh and hold hands as we went across the ice. We specifically went on Saturday because they lower a disco ball and play music into the rink making it a little dance hall. Are you beginning to tell why I loved it so much. All of my favorite things wrapped into one, Ice Skating, Dancing and of course at the very top of the list... my husband. This will forever be one of the most enjoyable dates we have ever gone on.
December, I love the way you instigate giving to others and sharing the light of Christ. My office decided to do a service project this year instead of giving each other gifts. We chose to help a center that provides a safe place for children to learn and play. We provided them new games for their game room. Thanks to this program, not only do children feel safe, but they also are better prepared to one day graduate from collage. The program is called University Neighborhood Partners it's a branch of The University of Utah and after our wonderful experience yesterday, I have full confidence in their mission and hope to work with them
again.

These kids reminded me so much of my mission. I couldn't help but tear up a little bit as I watched their faces light up with joy opening each package. I feel too often we forget about the true meaning of Christmas and what it means to give to those around us. I am thankful to these children who reminded me oh too well about how December is so much more then "amazon wish lists" and the stress of finding just the right gift.

Thank you December for all the lessons and memories. I can't wait to discover what else you have in store for us this year.

All our love,

J&L

Stacey Sargent Design

I want to give a shout out to Stacey Sargent and her darling BLOG. Stacey is an interior designer, fellow lover of The Big Apple and a former curly girl. I have really enjoyed reading and looking through her design ideas and portfolio. A few days ago I was chosen on her blog for a "give away" and won an adorable bag. It's my first win ever, really of anything so it's an early Christmas for me.

Thank you Stacey and I'm excited to see all the fun, exciting ideas you will continue to post on your blog!

Black Friday Bowling!

Hehe, yes that is my Brother and his wife smooching in the background.
Jake and I loved spending Thanksgiving with my family this year. My Dad is an amazing chef and whipped up some incredible dishes, including some vegan delights for my younger sister and me. It was so fun to hang out, eat and enjoy each others company but I have to say that my favorite part of it all was actually the day after on Black Friday. We didn't go shopping (although Jake and I did get a sweet deal from Golds Gym) but rather as a family we went BOWLING!!!

My Brother and Sister in-law have been volunteering with the Special Olympics Bowling League and have fallen in love with the sport. I remember going bowling when I was younger and my Dad would always win by a large margin, but not now. Watch out Daddy-o we are bigger, smarter and stronger then those little tikes were back in the day. I don't have much to talk though, I came in dead last both games. However, I was really impressed with how well everyone else did, my mom included. I guess she took a bowling class back in college... who knew?

Let's not forget this STUD!
My Grandma Kesler also came and joined in the fun. She had never been to a bowling ally before so she was really excited about it. It took a little convincing to get her to take a turn. She finally did and decided one time was good enough for her. She looks great though!

Bowling will hopefully continue on as a new Black Friday tradition in the Angell family,
for generations to come!
